 One narrative from this informant is included in the present collection. It was recorded at the same time as the narratives from Veracruz and illustrates a belief that was not represented among the latter. M. S. L. lives in extremely humble conditions, although her home was one of the better ones of the village. She knows intimately the popular belief of the community and has acquired a reputation for being able to cure by means of prayers and the use of herbs. The informant was born in Villa de Casas, Tamaulipas, and has always resided there except for a brief period during the Mexican revolution when she resided in nearby Ciudad Victoria.
